About Isla Canela

Situated on the border with Portugal on the Costa de la Luz, Isla Canela is both tranquil and unspoilt. The Costa de la Luz was recently voted by Ideal Home magazine as the second best coastline in the world.

The Costa de la Luz (coast of light) stretches from the border with Portugal in the west to Cadiz in the east. As the least known of the Spanish coasts this area has managed to retain it’s natural beauty, remaining virtually untouched by any mass tourism unlike other parts of the Spanish coastline. The original culture and heritage of the local people of the Costa de la Luz is still very evident.

Wonderful rolling countryside nestle against the shores of the glittering Atlantic Ocean. National parks and bird sanctuaries, meandering rivers and aromatic pine forests populate this area. With the typical Andalucian town of Ayamonte nearby, Isla Canela is an ideal place to discover the real Spain whilst enjoying a relaxing and peaceful holiday that is suitable for all the family.

With an 18 hole golf course, a driving range and two bowling greens, 7 kilometres of sandy beach, a marina, bars, restaurants, shops and watersports, hotels with evening entertainment, a flat region perfect for walking and cycling, a protected natural area ideal for bird watching and a climate with over 3000 hours of sunshine a year then this area is an experience waiting to be discovered.

There are 8 top quality golf courses within a 30 minute drive of Isla Canela.

The gentle slope of the ocean floor ensures that the sea is always a calm and safe place to swim.

For the more adventurous, Seville, Huelva, Cadiz, Jerez, Gibralter and Portugal are all nearby providing a wonderful opportunity to explore and enjoy the history and culture of the region. The old Spanish town of Ayamonte with it’s magnificent palm tree lined squares, marina, shops, restaurants, coffee shops and tapas bars is just a five minute drive away.

Ayamonte (pop. 17,000)

A typical Andalucian town offering a wide variety of shops. A pedestrian area that makes it easy to enjoy the restaurants, coffee bars and lively tapas bars that populate this lovely Spanish fishing town. A traditional market in the centre of Ayamonte provides all your freshly caught fish, meat and vegetables. There is a daily ferry service to Portugal across the Guadiana River (the second largest river in Europe).

Magnificent palm tree lined squares, whitewashed houses, baroque churches and beautiful displays of flowers are in abundance. Lovely statues, a park, a small zoo and a marina provide an appropriate ambience for this wonderful cultural Spanish town. The church of Nuestra Senora de las Angustias dates form the 15 th century.
